My name is Dean and my goal is to be an independent watchmaker, to make a watch completely by hand.
I will share with you the knowledge that I get on my journey to my goals. The contents will include watchmaker lathe videos, watch repairs, and watchmaking tool discussions. I hope to include general machine shop videos as I will need to make specialized machine tools, and watch cases.
I am currently in the process of making my first watch by modifying an existing Swiss made ETA 6498 movement. I want to slowly expand on my watchmaking skills to eventually completely make all the watch components by hand or using manual machines.
I hope you enjoy this journey should you choose to join.

Making the Bridges of my Watch - Watchmaking Vlog 52
Watchmaking Vlog Episode 52
In this watchmaking episode I start producing brass bridges which are going to be used to make for my watch. The bridges secure the wheels of the watch to the mainplate.
My daughter was born recently, hence the delayed upload and the bit of difference in video style.
I hope you enjoyed this episode, it was exciting for me to see a prototype of the bridges and watch part of the watch come to life, from my initial design using Fusion 360 to using the Bantam CNC machine to cut it out of brass. Stay Tuned for the next watchmaking episode.

What happened to this guy!?!?
I know this is pretty old but is it possible to use normal water whetstones instead of the india stone?
8.50 it's an Arkansas stone, although for the very last finish I use a Degussit stone. The graver is of course hardened and tempered to a deep straw colour which will cut most things horological.
as of 2024, this intro is quite depressing
awesome, cheers from Florida, USA...Paulie
Great advice. Thank you.
It's my favourite watch. Proper art and engineering. Horology at its best.
Awesome brother!
Ktoś coś wie czy nasz Mistrz żyje?
So I wonder, why exactly is it important that the diamond shape is perfect? And are you supposed to turn with the diamond shape down, or up?
Kaj😮😮😮
Can you do an equipment list and video maybe of all the machines and tools? That would be super awesome 👍 maybe you've already done that and i haven't discovered it yet...
Love the razor blade tip, very imformative.
Just found your channel and Subscribed. Very nice work
Hello Dean, how is your watchmaking journey going? Hope to see a update on your development
Can one find a new lathe?
Hey mate, not sure if youre still on here as im very late to the party but nonetheless your videos are inspiring and well of knowledge. Ive just got some questions for you about the BHI course as I'm picking up watch repairs from my father but am looking to begin getting certifications..and the BHI distance learning seems the most doable considering my situation. First question if, because we aren't based in the UK, i would assume that we would have to get our own tools, machine and material. Which costs money, so how much would you say youd have spent to finish the course? And what sort of equipment is required to complete the course? As i wouldnt want to enroll only to find i dont have the logistics to finish it.. For some exams, an examiner needs to be there, and I understand that i can find my own examiner, but what sort of qualification and where do you go to find these people that can be examiner? For those exams in Level 4, which you need to do to the UK, how does that happen? Is it a one day kind of thing? What the process like.. And lastly, starting from Level 3, do I choose from the start if i want to pursure watches or clocks? Because im getting the understanding from BHI that they teach more on the clock than watches for level 3.. I know its really lengthy and alot of questions but youre the only guy i know what I know has done the course.. cheers and keep inspiring!
What happened bro? I was really enjoying these build videos!
I think it would it be cool if you polished same rate whether you're doing the outside or the inside, causing the ones near the center to be more tightly packed I think that would give a pretty cool looking illusion that you're looking down a tunnel
can i say, you are a douch bag. cannel cut tool is hilarous
i really enjoy your videos....i hope that you are "alive and well", but just needed to stop videos for simple reasons in life. Happy 2024!
I recently found a watch lathe in the back of a shop that is almost the same as this lovely little one, and working restoring a few bits! Your vids are Finally giving me the last bits of knowledge to get started down that project! Thanks for the vids!
Salem je veux savoir de ou acheté tous le matériel le peyi us ou italien ou chinois
Well done great video, personally, I feel that these educational videos don’t need the background music, I found it a little irritating..
👉You’re Content delivery style registers perfectly with my Uber ADHD🧠🏁 New Subscriber here💯 EXCELLENT VIDEO👏👏
What I don't understand is how you can make things to size. E.g. if I need a rod that is exactly 0.3mm in diameter, how do I do that by hand? Constantly stop and measure?
Excellent video! May I know which glue in 3:19 used for holding the train bridge and copper?
@shanemeyer9224 @dekodermoze2696 His last reply was 4 months ago. So I take it he is at least around. I am glad he is ok, I do hope he comes back to making videos one day.
With the dumbass music
Really enjoying this series Dean. What an opportunity. Thank you for all you do.
Are you still working on this project? I've just discovered your series and actually hoping you will continue this series soon :)
Is Vaseline petroleum jelly a good source for curing stones?
Wonderful. The screw turned out well. Do you have a video on mirror polishing the watch case?
Congratulations!
Does anyone know what happened to dean? I hope he is ok its been years since we have seen any updates
Ghee-yosh.
❤ great job more lesson more videos clips aplod sir great work 😊
I'm looking for information about my lathe from the last movie if anyone knows what this model is
Hello buddy or you do not know what is the name of the lathe from my last video I'm looking for information. Best regards
Well done and thanks for sharing. What do you use for satin finish on stainless steel cases? Thanks
I am fascinated by these tiny little lathes. Steve Fletcher (on the Repair Shop) uses one in many episodes to change the diameters of pins and cogs. Amazing what one can do with one of these tiny little metal lathes.
was that boric acid? did u find it helpful to prevent the oxidation?
Hi Dean nice video. Can you let me know the A&F parts numbers for the tools to regulate? Thanks in advance Terry
Great journey.Lange & Sohne use pedal instead of lever .
@Dean DK - Is everything OK? Your FB and Your YT is empty above 2 years... is everything OK?
Would you be interested in selling this particular lathe? I tried to message you on Insta 😊
You could do without the music
Hope all is well.
Just watching this makes my mind light up, as i want to become a watchmaker.
